Trump and Canada’s New Prime Minister Have 'Extremely Productive' Conversation
U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that he had an 'extremely productive' first conversation with Canada’s new Prime Minister Mark Carney. 'We agreed on many issues and will meet immediately after Canada’s upcoming elections,' Trump wrote.
The elections in the country will take place on April 28. The Canadian Prime Minister mentioned yesterday that the era of deep economic and military ties between Canada and the U.S. has ended. He also promised retaliatory measures in response to Trump’s decision to impose 25% tariffs on U.S. vehicle imports.
The Canadian Prime Minister's election has occurred against the backdrop of a sharp deterioration in Canada-U.S. relations. Trump has repeatedly stated that he wants to make the neighboring country the 51st American state.
On Thursday, Carney said that he would not participate in trade negotiations with the United States until the U.S. President shows respect toward Canada and ceases threats of annexing the neighboring country.
