Ofelya
The killings of humanitarian workers have surged nearly one third last year, reaching almost 400, marking the "deadliest year" recorded since 1997. This was announced by Tom Fletcher, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, as reported by Reuters.
According to him, the ongoing conflict in Gaza continues to elevate the mortality rate of humanitarian staff, as per data from the UN and other sources.
The "Humanitarian Workers Security Database" indicates that 265 workers have already been killed this year, with 173 of them located in Gaza. Additionally, according to the same data, 36 humanitarian workers have been killed in Sudan this year, while three have been killed in Ukraine.
