No German Soldiers Will Be Deployed to Ukraine, Says Foreign Minister
The German Foreign Minister, Johan Wadephul, has opposed the deployment of German troops to Ukraine, even after a potential end to the war, as peacekeepers. This was reported by Euronews.
"If we deploy troops to Ukraine, we may lack sufficient forces," the minister stated, emphasizing that peacekeeping missions can be conducted without the involvement of the Bundeswehr.
Additionally, the brigade formed in May is intended to strengthen NATO's eastern flank against threats from Russia. Approximately 5,000 military and civilian personnel from Germany are expected to be stationed in Lithuania. Currently, about 700 German soldiers are stationed there. Lithuanian officials have indicated that the brigade is expected to be fully operational by 2027.
The German Foreign Minister has faced severe criticism from both his party members and political opponents regarding these statements related to Ukraine.
