Narek Karapetyan on the 'Trump Path'
Resolving security issues is more important than economic benefits. This view was expressed by Narek Karapetyan, Deputy Director of the Tashir Group holding company, during an interview with Sputnik Armenia, commenting on Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's claims.
The Prime Minister stated in an interview with Fox News: "If we focus on the economic side of this agreement, not only Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the United States but also Turkey, Russia, and Iran will receive very important, tangible, and indeed unprecedented benefits, since we currently do not have a railway connecting Iran to Russia from the South Caucasus." Following the signing of the Yerevan-Baku declaration in Washington, the Prime Minister also made investment proposals to Russia and Iran.
Karapetyan noted, "For Armenia, the primary issue is security. We must first understand whether the agreement on the 'Trump Path' ensures the stable security of our homeland's borders, and only then consider the economic components. I believe that security issues must be resolved first to achieve long-term balanced peace."
He highlighted that the Tashir Group does not plan any cooperation regarding the 'corridor' issue.
Karapetyan emphasized that the main condition for a favorable investment environment is the primacy of private property, which is currently subordinated to immediate political interests in our country. "If the authorities have arrested the number one investor in recent years for just one word, then how can this affect the investment environment?" Karapetyan posed rhetorically.
