Indian Workers in Ijevan Go on Strike Demanding Three Months of Unpaid Wages
Two hundred and five Indian workers at the "Grand Textile" factory in Ijevan have gone on strike since August 6, demanding three months' worth of unpaid wages. This was reported by epress.am.
"The company director has deceived us. The director demands that we work but does not pay us. We have all approached the Indian embassy, but they have not helped us. Three days ago, we went to the police, but they also did not assist us. We all want our wages and want to return to India. The owners are forcing us to work under the threat of a gun. We have no issues with Armenians; they are kind. But we need our salaries to be able to return to India," said the participants of the protest.
According to the website, the sewing factory, located in a former department store building, where the 205 Indian workers live, work, and eat, has 41 surveillance cameras. There are also security personnel working in the area. The entry and exit of workers are restricted by a time schedule, and the entry of third parties is strictly prohibited. Journalists are not allowed inside.
