Protests Erupt in Anchorage Ahead of Trump-Putin Meeting Against Russian President
On the eve of the summit involving the U.S. and Russian presidents, a protest took place in Anchorage, Alaska, in support of Ukraine and against the arrival of Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to BBC reports, several hundred people participated in the demonstration.
The organizer of the protest, Erin Jackson-Hill, head of the Stand UP Alaska nonprofit organization, declared that President "Putin is a war criminal" and that he "has no place on American soil." She stated, "We oppose our state being welcoming to authoritarian dictators, especially when this is being done not by our state governor or our representatives in Congress."
Another protest is set to take place today in Anchorage. The Anchorage Daily News reported that about a thousand refugees from Ukraine reside in Alaska.
