Putin and Trump Choose Unconventional Meeting Location
The choice of Alaska as the meeting location for Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump highlights the bilateral nature of their discussions rather than a multilateral one, says Alexey Pushkov, a member of the Federation Council's constitutional committee, as reported by RIA Novosti.
“The leaders of Russia and the United States have never met in Alaska in history. With this choice, the two presidents seem to signal that they are capable of making unconventional decisions. Additionally, this choice emphasizes the bilateral nature of the meeting, as opposed to a multilateral one, which would somewhat be the case if a third country were selected,” Pushkov stated.
The senator noted that the choice of Alaska is also “an unexpected and unconventional decision.”
