Azerbaijan Must Be Held Accountable and Release Armenian Prisoners: US Congressman

Brad Sherman, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and vice-chair of the Congressional Armenian Caucus, has expressed his opposition to the potential transfer of weapons to Azerbaijan by the United States and called on Azerbaijan to release all Armenian prisoners of war.

“Azerbaijan must be held accountable for its aggression. While U.S. engagement and support for Armenia is important, the U.S. must adopt a firmer stance to ensure that Armenia receives just and real security guarantees,” the congressman stated.

Sherman emphasized that the U.S. should not undermine Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act, which prohibits military assistance to Azerbaijan. “Azerbaijani forces continue to illegally detain Armenian prisoners of war. All Armenian prisoners must be released immediately and unconditionally,” he stressed.
