Former Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council Sentenced to Imprisonment
The former chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council and the former president of the Yerevan General Jurisdiction Court, Ruben Vardazaryan, has been found guilty. The Anti-Corruption Court, presided over by Judge Vahe Dolmazyan, recently announced the verdict, sentencing Ruben Vardazaryan to 1 year and 6 months in prison.
Additionally, the court imposed supplementary punishment on the former chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council, prohibiting him from holding positions in state and local self-government bodies and their organizations for 2 years.
It is noteworthy that Ruben Vardazaryan faced charges for actions unrelated to the powers granted to him as a high-ranking official, while holding the position of President of the Supreme Judicial Council since July 19, 2019. The accusations indicate that he used his official position to interfere with the administration of justice by Judge Andranik Simonian at the General Jurisdiction Court of Lori Province.
