Court's New Ruling on Suspects in the Fire Incident at Azat Village Military Barracks

The court has today lifted the house arrest measure imposed on the suspects, Gor Aghekyan and Marlen Sargsyan, involved in the fire incident at the military barracks in Azat village. However, the bail and prohibition on leaving the country remain unchanged.

The next hearing in the case is set for September 5, with witnesses Armen Nazaryan, Kamo Avagyan, and Yeranuhi Grigoryan expected to appear.

It is important to remember that on January 19, 2023, around 01:30, a fire broke out in the engineering battalion barracks of the RA Ministry of Defense’s military unit located in the Azat village area of Gegharkunik province. As a result of the fire, 15 conscript soldiers lost their lives, and 7 soldiers were transported to the Vardenis hospital, 4 of whom were discharged after receiving medical assistance, while 3 were taken to Yerevan with severe injuries to the National Burn Center.
