Surent Grigoryan on Alternatives to QR Code Tickets
In the unified ticketing system, paper QR tickets are no longer used, as the printing of such paper quantities is not environmentally sound, stated Yerevan's Deputy Mayor Suren Grigoryan during a press conference.
"Citizens who previously purchased paper QR tickets can now buy a transport card and, by regularly recharging it, utilize transport services. I urge citizens to purchase tickets in advance. Cards can be recharged through the TelSel wallet, terminals, or transport.yerevan.am website. This means that from home, without waiting in line, you can recharge at your convenience by entering the card number and benefit from it afterward.
For instance, when a person approaches the metro station and wishes to use it at that moment, there is some time required, usually 2-5 minutes, for that information to circulate within the system, and for the specific validator device to know that there is a ticket available on the card. Therefore, to avoid inconvenience, I ask that cards be recharged in advance,” noted Grigoryan.
Grigoryan mentioned that when purchasing a specific number of tickets through the terminal, a phone number is required. "When purchasing one or more tickets without identification, the tickets appear in the wallet almost immediately or within 10-30 seconds using the specified number. In the context of using the TelSel wallet, there is an improvement in the process of utilizing the wallet. Previously, applicants would send requests, which would be reviewed, approved, or rejected, taking some time. Now that process is carried out through an automated system, making it faster,” he added.
Grigoryan highlighted that during the phase-out of paper tickets, several alternatives have been provided for citizens to utilize.
