How Many Minors Are Held in Armenia's Penitentiary Institutions
There are 5 minors held in Armenia's penitentiary institutions, of which 2 are convicts and 3 are detainees awaiting trial. This was reported by the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia in response to a written inquiry from Sputnik Armenia.
"A total of 344 persons who are foreign citizens are also held in Armenia's penitentiaries, of which 272 are detainees and 72 are convicts," the agency noted.
The Penitentiary Service informed that there are a total of 2826 individuals in Armenia's penitentiary institutions, of which 1498 are detainees and 1328 are convicts. The penitentiaries of the Republic are designed for 4000 persons, of which 1805 are for detained individuals.
"The authorized units of the Penitentiary Service number 2026, of which 1836 are filled. Among the staff, 212 are women," the agency reported.
It is noted that there are 10 penitentiary institutions in Armenia, one of which is a hospital for convicts. Women and minors are housed in the 'Abovyan' penitentiary.
