Russia Ready to Support Syria in Reconstruction Efforts, Lavrov

The Syrian Foreign Minister has traveled to the capital of Russia for discussions. Russia is prepared to assist Syria in post-conflict reconstruction efforts. This statement was made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

“We have agreed to continue communications, and today's negotiations were very beneficial. The Syrian delegation plans to have several more rounds of talks across different venues in Moscow,” the minister said after discussions with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani.

At the same time, Lavrov expressed confidence that all of this will play a positive role in the development of dialogue between Moscow and Damascus. He noted that Russia is grateful to Syria for the measures taken to ensure the safety of Russian citizens and facilities in the country.

Moscow also supports the formation of a new composition of the Syrian government and the elections scheduled for September. According to the Russian Foreign Minister, the lifting of Western sanctions against Syria is the right path, and Moscow has never favored a policy of sanctions.
