Azerbaijan Prohibits Red Cross Visits to Armenian Prisoners

Azerbaijani authorities have decided to close the Red Cross office and prohibit any representatives from visiting Armenian prisoners. This was reported by the newspaper "Zhoghovurd."

The newspaper learned from the family members of Armenian prisoners that the Azerbaijani side has banned visits to Armenian prisoners, including Armenian military-political captives. According to the families of military-political prisoners, they were informed by the Red Cross office that while they were previously allowed to visit the prisoners once a month and communicate with their relatives via video call for a few minutes, the Azerbaijani side has now categorically prohibited these visits.

Families of the prisoners find themselves at a dead end; if there was any hope of at least establishing contact with those held captive through the Red Cross, that hope has now been extinguished.

It should be noted that Baku officially confirms the detention of 23 Armenians, 17 of whom were captured following Azerbaijan's aggression against Nagorno-Karabakh in September. Among them are representatives of the Artsakh military-political leadership, who have been illegally held in Baku's prison for over two years. Many parents insist that the number of captives on the Armenian side is actually higher, but Azerbaijan does not acknowledge this fact.
