Armenian Government Decides to Forgive Taxi Drivers' Previous Penalties
The Government of Armenia has decided to forgive the debts of taxi drivers totaling 1 billion 342.2 million drams. The decision was made during today’s session.
The government’s ruling states that between 2015 and 2019, several thousand taxi drivers accrued a total debt of approximately 930 million drams. These fees stopped being enforced in 2019, but many have not settled them, leading to accumulated penalties of 415 million drams.
The executive body has opted to forgive these debts, considering that a new fee system for taxi drivers will be introduced starting in 2024.
According to the State Revenue Committee of Armenia, from September 2024 until the end of 2025, the expected collection from these fees is about 330 million drams. It is noteworthy that starting January 1, 2025, the cash payment fee for passenger transport will be 3.5%, increasing to 5% on January 1, 2026, while for non-cash payments, the rates will be 2.5% and 4%, respectively.
