Ursula von der Leyen Promised Trump Something the EU Cannot Deliver, Bild Reports

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has promised to purchase shale gas, arms, and make investments through private companies in the U.S. as part of a trade agreement. However, this is something the EU does not have the authority to do, and therefore will not be able to fulfill, according to a report by Bild, citing European officials.

“Ursula von der Leyen offered and promised Trump things regarding certain points that are fundamentally impossible to implement even as the EU. For example, the trade ministry reports that Brussels will not buy shale gas from the U.S. nor compel companies to make investments in the U.S. A similar situation also applies to additional arms purchases that Trump is counting on,” the publication states.
