Former Bundestag Member Found Guilty of Receiving Funds from Baku
The Munich Higher Regional Court has found former Bundestag member Edward Lindner of the Christian Social Union guilty of bribing elected officials in what has become known as the 'Azerbaijan case,' as reported by the German media.
His sentence of nine months in prison has been conditionally applied. The trial lasted six months, during which the Munich prosecution accused Lindner of bribing other elected officials using Azerbaijani funds.
It was noted that he intended to secure pro-Azerbaijani votes at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. Between 2008 and 2016, Lindner received nearly four million euros from Azerbaijan through several shell companies.
It is worth mentioning that Lindner had previously admitted during the trial that he had received money from Baku.
