The History of Armenia to be Taught in Schools from September
The History of Armenia will be taught in schools starting from September. This was announced by the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, Zhanna Andreasyan, on her Facebook page, where she also shared a photo of the textbook.
The debate on whether to title the subject as 'Armenian History' or 'History of Armenia' was brought up in 2024 among education experts, historians, and political figures. This topic was also raised earlier by the Prime Minister of Armenia regarding the renaming of the textbook.
The Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, Araksyan Svajyan, assured earlier that the name change of the textbook was determined following discussions with various experts. According to her, the content of the textbook, which has already been revised in line with new educational standards, will only be undergoing a renaming.
“The textbooks will not have any substantive changes; that content is already anchored by the standards. In other words, we are not talking about changes to the subject curriculum or the standards, but only about the name,” stated the Deputy Minister.
