Teen Who Drowned Was from Family Displaced from Artsakh

A group of four friends came here for fishing, and at some point, a 16-year-old boy decided to swim in the reservoir, after which the incident occurred. Eyewitnesses report that one of the friends attempted to help but was unable to, resulting in the boy drowning.

NEWSam presents new details today regarding the drowning incident that took place at the Azat reservoir.

At this moment, the boy's body is in a vehicle; police officers have arrived, and investigative actions are underway.

The drowned teenager was from a family that was forcibly displaced from Artsakh and lived in the village of Azatavank. The family consists of five brothers.

It is possible that swimming may be prohibited here in the near future, and supervision will be implemented, as attendees noted that this is not the first time such a tragic incident has occurred.

Earlier, it was reported that a call was received at the Kotayk regional rescue service's crisis management center, stating that a boy had fallen into the Azat reservoir. Two operational teams from the Special Water Rescue and Fire-Rescue units, as well as a rescue group from the Special Rescue Operations Center, were dispatched to the scene.

The diver recovered the body of the citizen born in 2008 from approximately four meters away from the shore.
