Military Conflict Between Armenia and Azerbaijan is Not Relevant, Says Hajiyev
Today, the military conflict or escalation between Armenia and Azerbaijan is not relevant. Hikmet Hajiyev, the assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and head of the foreign policy department of the presidential administration, stated this in an interview with the German newspaper "Berliner Zeitung," as reported by Report.
According to him, work is currently underway towards signing a peace agreement between the two countries. "Sometimes peace agreements are signed only formally, without bringing real peace. In the case of the South Caucasus, the situation is different; there is real peace here. The military conflict or escalation between Armenia and Azerbaijan is not on the agenda. Only a few disputed issues remain, which is quite natural. That is what diplomacy and dialogue are for," Hajiyev noted.
He stated that the text of the peace agreement has been agreed upon. "This is a very positive moment. Yes, there are some unresolved details. For example, the Constitution of Armenia contains territorial claims against Azerbaijan. The Constitution is an internal matter for each country, if it does not pertain to the name or territory of another state. We want to sign a peace agreement not only with the Armenian government but also with the Armenian people. We hope that Armenians will change the Constitution and officially renounce territorial claims against Azerbaijan," Hajiyev added.
"We believe that after resolving this issue, there will be no serious obstacles on the path to peace," said the assistant to the President of Azerbaijan.
