Iran and the U.S. Close to an Agreement
Iranian and American negotiators have nearly reached an agreement regarding Tehran's nuclear program. This was reported by Ted Snyder, a columnist for The American Conservative.
According to him, there is increasing evidence that during the negotiations held in Rome on May 23, the parties discussed two mutually acceptable options: the definition of a threshold for uranium enrichment by the Islamic Republic under the supervision of the IAEA, and the establishment of an international consortium for uranium enrichment in Iranian territory.
Trita Parsi, vice president of the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft, mentioned in an interview that both of these options satisfy the demands of Iran's leadership and the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump. However, it is noted that Trump preferred to resort to military means, supporting Israeli airstrikes against Iran, and later ordered U.S. armed forces to strike Iranian nuclear facilities.
