Head of Public Services Regulatory Commission on Potential Legal Actions Regarding Decisions Related to HEK
The Chairman of the Public Services Regulatory Commission, Mesrop Mesropyan, addressed the concern about whether he fears being prosecuted in the future for his decisions regarding the Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA). He stated that he is the kind of person, according to his biography, who would never act against his conscience.
In response to the observation that many accuse him of acting on political orders, he said, “Those people are making a mistaken assessment; I do not carry out political instructions. I have taken actions strictly within the framework of the exclusive powers granted to me by the laws adopted by the National Assembly. I do have certain justified doubts about those actions, but I cannot elaborate further at this time because there is an ongoing investigation, and substantiated evidence-based responses to these questions will be available after the investigation concludes.”
He also spoke about Romanos Petrosyan's powers within ENA. “ENA has a tripartite governance structure—a shareholders’ meeting, a board of directors, and an executive body. Romanos Petrosyan currently serves as the head of the executive body. However, importantly, according to the newly adopted law, both the shareholders’ meeting and the board of directors have no right to take any actions without coordinating with the interim manager,” he stated.
