Charges Filed Against Former Ejmiatsin Mayor's Mother-in-Law for Money Laundering

According to ArmLur.am, charges have been filed against the mother-in-law of former Ejmiatsin mayor Diana Gasparyan for money laundering.

The newspaper reported that the pressure surrounding former mayor Diana Gasparyan has reached a point where her mother-in-law will be summoned for questioning by the Anti-Corruption Committee in the coming days.

"We have informed that the Anti-Corruption Committee has filed charges against the former mayor of Ejmiatsin for money laundering and abuse of official power. What has occurred at the investigative body? First, Diana Gasparyan was held at the Anti-Corruption Committee for about an hour. She refused to answer the questions of the investigative body and stated that she declined to provide testimony. In addition to filing charges against her, the investigative body has also chosen a measure to prohibit her from leaving the country.

Prior to the questioning, on May 15, Ejmiatsin's ruling party mayor Diana Gasparyan announced that she was resigning. Her colleagues have not commented on the reasons for her resignation, stating that they have nothing to add to her explanations.

37-year-old Diana Gasparyan, whose family members have been involved in various scandalous stories during her tenure, decided to resign citing that after seven years of service, she wished to dedicate her time to her family. And while Mayor Gasparyan was discussing the reasons for her resignation, the Anti-Corruption Committee began its work.

The Prosecutor General's Office confirmed information about the initiation of criminal proceedings and stated that it has been merged with a previously initiated case based on the same publication from "Hetq".
