Resolution on Recognition of the Armenian Genocide Presented in the Irish House of Representatives
The Irish House of Representatives, the lower house of the country's bicameral parliament, has presented an inter-party resolution regarding the recognition of the Armenian Genocide. This was reported by the European Armenian Federation for Justice and Democracy.
The resolution emphasizes that the Turkish government's persistent refusal to recognize the genocide of 1915 not only hinders its reconciliation with its own past but also obstructs its progress toward genuine democratization.
The resolution calls on the Irish government to fully participate in the events marking the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and to honor the memory of the 1.5 million victims.
It also urges other governments worldwide to recognize the Armenian Genocide, supports the teaching of the history of the genocide in schools in its actual historical context, and proposes the establishment of an International Day of Remembrance for the victims of the Armenian Genocide.
