A Turkish Citizen Tried to Buy Radioactive Uranium in Georgia for 3 Million Dollars
In Batumi, citizens of Georgia and Turkey were arrested for attempting to sell uranium. This was reported by the Director of the Anti-Terrorism Center of the State Security Service of Georgia, Bacha Mgeladze.
According to him, the accused intended to sell uranium for 3 million dollars. This nuclear material, considering its potency and radiation source, is suitable for preparing explosive devices aimed at conducting terrorist attacks, claims a representative of the State Security Service.
A criminal case has been initiated against the arrested individuals under Article 230 of the Georgian Criminal Code (illegal handling of nuclear materials or devices, radioactive waste, and materials). This article carries a penalty of 5 to 10 years of imprisonment, reports TASS.
The transaction was thwarted by employees of the State Security Service of Georgia in Batumi, according to the country’s Chief Prosecutor's Office.
