Payments for Loans of Brandy Exporters Unable to Cross the Georgian Border Will Be Postponed

Due to delays in transit through Georgia, payments for loans taken out for grape procurement in 2022–2023 by Armenian brandy exporters will be postponed for up to 6 months. This decision was made during a meeting of the Armenian government today.

“As a result of the adoption of the project, the burden of servicing the involved loans will be somewhat alleviated, and economic operators will have the opportunity to conclude contracts for grape procurement and carry out additional grape procurements up until September 1,” the justification for the decision states.

It is noteworthy that brandy producers organized a protest on May 13 in front of the Georgian embassy in Armenia, expressing dissatisfaction with the obstacles posed by the Georgian side to the passage of trucks from Armenia to Russia. Armenian economic operators asserted that their brandy is subjected to laboratory testing in Georgia, and trucks are forced to wait several weeks at the Georgian border crossing.
