Avoid the Sun, It's Dangerous: Ministry of Health

The Ministry of Health of Armenia warns that high temperatures are dangerous for individuals with cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. Elevated temperatures strain the heart and blood vessels, accelerate water loss, and can raise or lower blood pressure. This is especially dangerous in cases of hypertension, heart failure, and diabetes.

If you have cardiovascular issues:

  • Drink 1.5–2 liters of water daily, even if you're not thirsty.
  • Avoid the sun between 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
  • Wear light, light-colored, breathable clothing and a hat.
  • Measure your blood pressure 1–2 times a day.
  • Discuss with your doctor any possible adjustments to medications and dosages during hot weather.
  • If you experience weakness, chest pain, or dizziness, seek medical attention immediately.

If you have diabetes:

  • Monitor your blood glucose levels.
  • Store insulin and the glucometer under the right conditions.
  • Limit physical activity during hot weather.
  • If you feel unwell, check your blood glucose level and consult a doctor.

General recommendations:

  • Use air conditioning or a fan.
  • Incorporate fresh vegetables and fruits into your diet.
  • Limit fatty, salty, and smoked dishes.
  • Drink sufficient water and avoid sugary juices and carbonated beverages.
  • Plan walks for the morning and evening hours.
