Zahkarova Calls for German Embassy to Apologize for Distorted Map of USSR Flag
The German embassy in Moscow should apologize for publishing a distorted map of post-war European borders featuring the emblem of the USSR national flag on its official Telegram channel, stated Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
She recalled a post by the German embassy in Moscow regarding the borders in Europe after the war, which instead of the USSR state flag featured a "hybrid of the Third Reich flag and the symbol of the banned extremist National Bolshevik Party," and questioned the motives of the German diplomats.
"In any case, apologizing for this in the year marking the 80th anniversary of the Victory over Nazism would not be, to put it mildly, inappropriate," the diplomat wrote on her Telegram channel.
According to Zakharova, although the publication has been removed, it is essential to understand the motivations behind the actions of the German diplomats, and the options are very limited.
