How Annoying Are All These Changes: Avinyan
In the coming weeks, changes in traffic on Saryan Street will begin, which will involve organizing one-way traffic from Mashtots Avenue towards Baghramyan Avenue. This was announced by the head of the transport department, Vazgen Harutyunyan, during a session at the Yerevan Municipality.
Mayor Tigran Avinyan responded, stating, "On Beirut Street, we must determine whether we are turning right or left from a certain point since the middle section is designated only for buses. For that decision, we must know in advance that if we choose the right lane as the first lane, we will only be able to turn right from the intersection. Do we see this now or not?"
"We see it when approaching the intersection," Harutyunyan replied. Avinyan added, "It needs to be clearly visible from above, I believe, so that people do not have to think about how to reposition themselves at the last moment and possibly violate the solid line." Harutyunyan promised to review the issue in detail once again.
Avinyan reminded everyone why these changes are being made: "I can imagine how annoying these changes are, and how much you remember us when you are stuck in traffic jams, but I want to talk about why these changes are happening at all and why now. The summer season is generally very suitable for making traffic changes. The load is not very high. The main goal of these changes is to provide benefits for citizens using public transport. Yes, when we create opportunities for buses to increase their average speed with a dedicated lane, it naturally creates certain problems for cars. However, we have certain tools that allow us to gradually change traffic flow to achieve continuous movement of vehicles without stops."
