European Union Decides: Sanctions to Be Imposed on Israel
The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, is set to announce various options for sanctions against Israel next week in response to its military operations in the Gaza Strip. This has been reported by the Euractiv portal, citing its sources.
According to them, several scenarios are being considered, including the full or partial suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement, targeted sanctions against officials, military personnel, and settlers. Furthermore, sources suggest that the European Union may restrict trade with Israel, impose an arms embargo, or cease scientific and technological cooperation.
The suspension of the Association Agreement with the EU can only occur with the unanimous support of national governments for such measures. According to the portal's interlocutors, it is more likely that the EU will opt for sanctions against specific individuals, similar to actions already taken by Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, and Norway.
It is expected that EU foreign ministers will discuss possible measures on July 15. On the same day, Israel is required to report on the improvement of the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.
