Trump's Statement Surprises His Administration
The announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding a ceasefire between Iran and Israel has taken some officials within his administration by surprise, reports The New York Times, citing a senior White House official.
According to the official, the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, has played a significant role in facilitating the agreements for a temporary ceasefire between Iran and Israel. The source pointed out that U.S. Vice President James David Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Special Envoy to the President, Steve Witkoff, were involved in diplomatic communications with Iran to help reach this agreement.
The White House official added that Israel has agreed to the ceasefire on the condition that Iran halts its attacks; however, it did not specify what conditions Tehran might agree to.
On the night of June 24, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Iran and Israel have agreed to implement a ceasefire. According to him, once it takes effect, the world will celebrate the 'official end of the 12-day war.'
