Iran Demands Emergency Meeting: Perpetrators Must Be Held Accountable
Iran's representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Iravani, has stated that the strikes carried out by the United States against Iran constitute a gross violation of international law and the UN Charter.
“There is no doubt that the US military aggression against Iran violates the mandatory international norms established by international law and the UN Charter, undermining the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Iravani asserted.
“Considering the severe and far-reaching consequences of these barbaric and criminal acts on international peace and security, the Islamic Republic of Iran urgently requests an emergency meeting of the Security Council to discuss this blatant and illegal act of aggression,” he wrote in a letter addressed to the President of the UN Security Council and the Secretary-General.
Furthermore, the head of Iran's permanent mission emphasized the need for the Security Council to convene in order to “categorically condemn the aforementioned actions and take all necessary measures in accordance with the obligations set forth by the UN Charter to ensure that the perpetrators of such egregious crimes are held accountable and do not remain unpunished.”
