There Will Be No 'Zangezur Corridor', Says Pashinyan
There will be no 'Zangezur Corridor', but there will be a 'Crossroad of Peace', Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated during a meeting with representatives of the Armenian community in Turkey. This comment came in response to a question from one of the community representatives regarding whether Turkey's goal is not to implement the idea of Greater Turan, in the context of which the opening of the 'Zangezur Corridor' is discussed.
“Both we and Turkey want roads. Let’s open the borders. For example, we want to establish relations with the European Union, and Turkey also has economic ties that are developing, including with Central Asia and China, which results in having more communication routes. We put all of this under one headline, ‘Turan’, and that’s it, let it go… Let’s also live and give others the opportunity to live as well. There will be no 'Zangezur Corridor', but there will be a 'Crossroad of Peace'. This means cargo transportation based on mutual respect, recognition of sovereignty, and legal rights,” he stated.
The Prime Minister referenced the well-known humor about the dragon over water, noting that the dragon wants to drink water, let it drink, what’s the problem? “This is the same as our Armenian community's concern about the idea of 'Oh, their goal is Turan.' What do they want, do they want to go through Armenian territory…? Let them come and go, is that bad? We are offering this with our 'Crossroad of Peace', we are saying go ahead. Can you imagine a country in the 21st century where its borders are closed?” Pashinyan emphasized.
