Shirak Governor Holds Emergency Consultation
The Governor of Shirak, Davit Arushanyan, held an emergency consultation with the participation of Armen Apoyan, the head of the Shirak Regional Rescue Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and responsible officials from the governor's office. The discussions focused on cataloging the consequences of the strong winds, hail, and heavy rains recorded today and the necessary measures to rectify these issues as quickly as possible.
The governor was informed that, to date, the Shirak Regional Rescue Department has received around 300 reports from Gyumri, Artik, and Achuys. Currently, nine firefighting and rescue teams are working on-site to delineate hazardous areas and address issues immediately.
Various neighborhoods in Gyumri and around ten localities in Artik are currently without electricity. There have been no reported cases of ambulance calls or gas leaks.
Immediately following the strong winds and rain, the deputy governor of Shirak, Artush Hovhannisyan, led officials from the governor’s office on a tour of the region, assessing the aftermath of the reports and taking necessary steps to organize aid.
By the governor's directive, local commissions have been created in all communities of the region, which will include officials from the governor's office to document damages and form a comprehensive picture of the situation.
It is noteworthy that the strong winds and tornado, which started at 7:00 PM, have reportedly caused significant damage to the communities of Gyumri and Artik, according to preliminary reports and statements from private individuals. The strong tornado, with wind speeds ranging from 17 to 32 m/s, is reported to have damaged roofs, uprooted trees, and affected residential buildings, public structures, and agricultural buildings in the villages of Mets Mantash, Getap, Geghanist, Horum, Arevshat, Nor Kyanq, Anushavan, Horum, and Pemyzashen, as well as affecting power lines. Many agricultural lands in various communities have reportedly suffered from the strong hail.
