Russian Side Will Be Forced to Act: Medinsky
Ukraine is showing that it is not ready for negotiations. This was stated by Vladimir Medinsky, assistant to the President of Russia, in an interview with the Wall Street Journal.
According to him, such a strategy could worsen Kyiv’s situation in the context of the ongoing conflict. “We want peace,” said the head of the Russian negotiating team, adding that “if Ukraine continues to act in the interests of other countries,” “the Russian side will be forced to respond.”
Medinsky noted that not reaching a compromise would cost Ukraine a number of new territories. He also stated that long-term warfare with Russia is not feasible and cited the example of the Northern War with Sweden.
“It is impossible to wage a long-term war with Russia,” said Medinsky, referring to the 21-year war with Sweden in the 18th century as evidence that Russia tends to win extended battles.
