U.S. Court Allows Trump the Opportunity

The federal appeals court has ruled that former U.S. President Donald Trump may deny journalists access to the Oval Office, Air Force One, and other "restricted access areas" based on their editorial decisions. This was reported by Bloomberg.

Yesterday, the appellate court overturned a lower court judge's ruling with a vote of two to one. The decision relates to a previously restored right for the Associated Press agency to participate in the work of the rotating group of journalists covering the president's daily movements. However, the appellate court's decision secured a victory for Trump's administration in the battle against access permissions for the publication.

In the majority opinion, Judge Neomi Rao wrote, "The lower court's ruling constitutes an infringement on the president's independence and control over his personal working spaces." She noted that throughout the history of the country, presidents have held crucial meetings and made historical decisions in the Oval Office and on Air Force One.

"Sometimes they have invited the press to observe. However, these presidential restricted areas are not platforms of the First Amendment, and the president has the right to decide who may access them," Rao wrote, joined by Judge Greg Katsas.
