South Korea Discusses Joint Air Patrols with the US
South Korea is in discussions with the United States regarding joint air patrols following the crash of a patrol aircraft. The Republic of Korea's armed forces are seeking assistance from US military personnel to conduct air patrols after a P-3 aircraft went down, as reported by the Yonhap news agency.
"Negotiations are underway with the US Armed Forces to receive support from US Pacific Command patrol aircraft," military officials have stated. Due to security concerns following the crash of the P-3 aircraft in South Korea, dozens of flights involving this model have been canceled.
The country's armed forces are ramping up surveillance using alternative means such as naval ships and helicopters. The Republic of Korea Navy's P-3 patrol aircraft crashed near Pohang in Gyeongsangbuk-do province on May 29, hitting a mountain during a training flight. All four individuals on board tragically lost their lives.
