Entry of Certain Russian Citizens into Latvia Prohibited
Latvia has prohibited entry to its territory for certain Russian citizens who own real estate near strategic sites. This was reported by TV3.
The Latvian State Security Service (VDD) has conducted a series of checks on Russians who have purchased or constructed residential and commercial properties near sites of national security importance. Russian citizens are now included in a list of undesirable individuals for entry into the country.
“In several cases, risks posed to Latvia's national security by Russian citizens have been identified. These citizens are included in the so-called blacklist or in the list of foreigners prohibited from entering Latvia,” the statement said.
Additionally, Latvia has tightened entry rules for Russians. According to new regulations, effective from September 1, arrivals must provide detailed information about themselves 48 hours prior to entry, including the purpose of travel, duration, and routes of stay, as well as information about relatives holding public or military positions. Violation of these requirements can lead to fines of up to €2000.
