Russia Warns: This Country Will End Up in Dependency, Says Zakharova
Moldova will receive 400 million euros from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to abandon the services of the Russian-Moldovan gas distribution company, Moldovagaz. This was reported by the country’s government press service, according to RIA Novosti.
“The funds do not go into questionable pockets, no dubious commercial banks are involved, and there are no hidden schemes here,” the statement said.
Moldovagaz is a Moldovan-Russian energy company that deals with the transportation of natural gas and liquefied gas, the construction of gas supply networks, and the installation of gas equipment, as well as the gasification and maintenance in Moldova.
Meanwhile, Maria Zakharova, a representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, warned that this step would lead to an energy crisis in Moldova. “Moldova's decision to take a loan of 400 million euros to abandon the services of the Russian-Moldovan Moldovagaz gas distribution company will plunge the country into energy dependency,” Zakharova said.
