Inter President on Champions League Final Defeat

Inter President Beppe Marotta responded to questions regarding head coach Simone Inzaghi's future following the team's 5-0 defeat to PSG in the Champions League final.

“It was a negative evening where the opponent exceeded us in every aspect; we tip our hats to them. This should not change our assessment of the entire season, including reaching the final of the Champions League. It was not our best match, and we regret it, especially in front of so many fans who came here. Regarding Inzaghi's future, there is no change in our evaluation. We have already stated that we will meet with Inzaghi next week. He has another year on his contract, and over the past four years, he has proven that he fully deserves to be here. Many of our achievements are due to him,” Marotta stated.

Italy's runner-up, Inter's head coach Simone Inzaghi also commented on the 0-5 defeat against the French champions and cup holders PSG in the Champions League final. “We started the match poorly, conceded quick goals, and failed to operate compactly, stretching out on the field, which made it easy for PSG to attack. This heavy defeat brings us immense bitterness, but it does not cancel out our successes in reaching the final. We attempted to attack with long passes, but the opponent was strong. After conceding the first goal, we fell apart. Of course, we should have played better and been more technically precise with our passes. But we were unable to execute what we planned,” Inzaghi's remarks were cited by UEFA’s website.

PSG won the Champions League trophy for the first time. Two years ago, Inter lost to Manchester City in the Champions League final with a score of 0-1.
It's worth noting that in the 2024/25 season finale of the Champions League, French PSG decisively defeated Milan’s Inter 5-0 at Munich’s Allianz Arena, claiming the most prestigious trophy in European club football for the first time in history.

This is the first time a team has won the final of the main European club competition by a margin of five goals.
