This Day Could Be Historic for Henrikh Mkhitaryan: Champions League Final Awaited
Today, at 23:00 Yerevan time, the final of the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League season will take place, where French club PSG will compete against Italian side Inter Milan. This match could be historic for the former captain of the Armenian national football team, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who has previously won both the UEFA Europa League and the UEFA Champions League. If Mkhitaryan succeeds in winning this final as well, he will become the only player in history to have played in and won three European Champions League finals.
The final will be held at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany. International media are dubbing this final as “a game of youth against experience.” The average age of Inter's starting lineup is 30 years and 4 months, while PSG's is 24 years and 7 months. Inter features eight players who last played in a Champions League final two years ago. Inter has won the Champions League three times - in 1963-64, 1964-65, and 2009-10. PSG has never won this title.
Corriere della Sera interviewed French football legend Youri Djorkaeff, who is a symbolic figure for both PSG and Inter fans. Djorkaeff, who won the Winners' Cup with PSG in the 1995/96 season, also became the UEFA Cup champion with Inter from 1996 to 1999 (1998). This final is particularly special for Djorkaeff as it is linked to two key clubs in his career. He spoke warmly of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, recalling an interesting moment: “Indeed, I have a photo with him when he was just a child. I am very happy for Henrikh Mkhitaryan and his family. They are truly people of values. Henrikh proudly holds the flag of Armenia high around the world,” Djorkaeff stated.
