Lecturer Arrested While Receiving Bribe at University

As part of an ongoing criminal investigation initiated by the Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia, it has been established that a lecturer at Yerevan's Mesrop Mashtots University, using his official powers and influence, demanded and received a total of 500,000 AMD in bribes from students in exchange for favoring them in their academic assessments.

Specifically, the investigation has revealed that during the period from March to April 2025, the lecturer solicited bribe payments from students to ensure higher grades on their final exams. In one case, he received the bribe directly from a student, while in another instance, he was caught red-handed receiving the bribe during a covert investigative operation conducted by the Anti-Corruption Committee that simulated the act of bribery. Following his arrest, a search was conducted, and the money, which served as the object of the bribe, was seized from his possession.

The lecturer has been charged under Article 272, Part 2, Clause 3 of the RA Criminal Code (two counts) for accepting bribes in the private sector. A measure of house arrest has been applied to him. The preliminary investigation of the criminal case has been concluded, and the materials of the case have been submitted to the supervising prosecutor for confirmation and subsequent referral to the court for trial.
