Traffic Restrictions Implemented in Several Streets of Yerevan: New Regulations
To enhance the efficiency of public transport operations, a comprehensive route has been developed for a dedicated bus lane in Yerevan, which has been partially implemented. This route starts in the Nor Nork administrative district and is expected to reach the Malatia-Sebastia administrative district, as reported by the Yerevan city hall.
“To expand the aforementioned dedicated bus lane, a mobility concept for Yerevan’s small center has been developed in collaboration with partners from Île-de-France (France), which, in addition to increasing dedicated bus lanes, includes several streets where traffic organization changes suggest restrictions, turning these streets into pedestrian zones. The sections indicated in the picture are marked in yellow. From these sections, the first step proposes applying the mentioned restrictions on Abovyan, Nalbandyan, and Aram Streets adjacent to Republic Square, which is highlighted in pink in the image. By implementing this proposal, it is expected to apply traffic restrictions and designate these sections for pedestrians.
The aim of the proposed changes is to impose traffic flow restrictions in the small center, making it suitable for public transport and pedestrians. Following the discussion of all proposals, a decision was made to ensure the continuity of the dedicated bus lanes and also to implement traffic restrictions on several streets.
The new traffic organization schemes resulting from the upcoming planned changes are presented in the image, aimed at separating public transport from the general traffic, ensuring increased efficiency and service quality. In particular, the bus stop adjacent to the Amiryan Street intersection will be relocated to a section of the road next to the Diana Abgaryan Park (formerly known as Malibu Park). The dedicated bus lane on Mashtots Avenue will be moved from the intersection with Karen Demirchyan Street to the third lane to ensure its continuity towards Khorenatsi Street and enable the bus to make a left turn.
On Khorenatsi Street, dedicated bus lanes will be introduced in both directions, and parking restrictions will be implemented. The dedicated bus lane on Italy, Beirut, and Argishti Streets will continue to the Victory Bridge. In this context, traffic changes will also be made on Saint Gregory the Illuminator Street, resulting in the addition of a traffic lane at the Gr. Lusavorich Street-Mashtots Avenue intersection, with the allowed direction to the left towards the Victory Bridge, which will allow left turns in the specified section from two traffic lanes.
Traffic changes are also anticipated on Saryan and Moscow Streets, where one-way traffic will be organized on Saryan Street and on the segment of Moscow Street from the intersection with Tumanian Street to the intersection with Bagramyan Avenue, with the direction from Mashtots Avenue towards Bagramyan Avenue. Following these changes, vehicle parking will be maintained on both sides of the specified road segments. This alteration is expected to reduce the likelihood of congestion on Saryan Street,” the statement indicated.
