How Many People Renounced Armenian Citizenship After the 44-Day War
In 2020, during the 44-day war and the year following it, more than 10,000 citizens renounced their Armenian citizenship, of which 6,278 were male citizens. This was reported by NEWS.am, summarizing the data received from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia in response to a written inquiry.
Over the past five years, the number of male citizens who renounced their Armenian citizenship has been approximately 24 percent higher than that of female citizens. Specifically, between 2020 and 2024, a total of 21,590 individuals have discontinued their Armenian citizenship.
Notably, the highest number of male citizens who renounced their Armenian citizenship (3,433 individuals) occurred in 2020, while 1,966 male citizens under the age of 18 renounced their citizenship in 2022.
