The MSC ELSA, a container ship operating under the Liberian flag, sank in the Arabian Sea near the shores of Kerala, India. This was reported by the Indian Coast Guard.
According to reports, the ship sank 38 nautical miles from the Kochi port after one of its holds began to rapidly fill with water, leading to a complete loss of stability and capsizing.
There were 640 containers on board, including 13 containing hazardous materials, with 12 holding calcium carbide. Additionally, the ship's fuel tanks were carrying over 84 tons of diesel and approximately 367 tons of heavy oil, posing a serious environmental disaster risk.
