A Powerful X-Class Solar Flare Has Erupted on the Sun
Ofelya
A powerful X-class solar flare has erupted on the Sun. This was reported by the Institute of Applied Geophysics to TASS.
“On May 25, at 04:52 Moscow time, an X1.1 flare lasting 17 minutes was recorded in the group of spots 4098 (S05W22),” the institute stated.
Solar flares are classified into five categories—A, B, C, M, and X—based on the intensity of the X-ray radiation. The minimum A0.0 class corresponds to a radiation intensity of 10 nanowatts per square meter in the Earth's orbit. Each subsequent class increases the intensity tenfold.
Flares are typically accompanied by ejections of solar plasma, and when these clouds reach Earth, they can cause magnetic storms.
