Statement Issued by the US Embassy

Traveling to the United States on a tourist visa for the purpose of giving birth is not permitted, according to a statement made by the US Embassy.

"Your tourist visa cannot be used to give birth in the US and secure US citizenship for your newborn. The consular officer reviewing your visa application may deny the issuance of the visa if there are grounds to believe that you are traveling for the purpose of childbirth," the statement reads.
