Economic Collapse in Another Sector: Garnik Danielyan
Today, brandy producers staged a protest in front of the Georgian embassy and then moved to the Government building, demanding the removal of obstacles to exporting Armenian-made beverages through Georgian territory. This was reported by Garnik Danielyan, a member of the 'Armenia' faction in the National Assembly, on his Facebook page.
'About a week ago, when the brandy producers were holding another protest, I raised this issue from the podium of the National Assembly, to which the Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan assured us that they were in contact with the Georgian side and were doing everything to resolve the issue as soon as possible. In reality, the problem has not been solved, and for 40 days, representatives of this business have been suffering enormous financial losses. Vehicles have been stuck at the checkpoint for an extended period. Hundreds of employees may become unemployed.
Having been left to fend for themselves, the entrepreneurs are forced to carry out protests in front of the Georgian embassy, while the Armenian side should be directing all efforts to eliminate this illegal and unclear ban.
It should be noted that Georgia is a transit country, and alcoholic beverages are exported to the EAEU and Baltic countries, and in this case, removing the seals from goods at the Upper Lars checkpoint and conducting laboratory tests cannot be justified.
The responsibility for this issue lies with the Armenian authorities, who, despite having all the connections and opportunities, are not taking sufficient steps to save this crucial sector of the economy. All of this is the result of incompetent and irresponsible governance. The concerns of citizens do not seem to matter to the current authorities. This group, which has failed in all sectors, only knows how to exploit and impose fines, directing them towards securing their own well-being.'
It is recalled that in the near future, it is possible that Armenia's Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan will personally visit Georgia to discuss the issues related to the export of brandy alcohol.
