VOR/DME 2700 Radio Beacon to Be Supplied to Armenia
The Russian developer and manufacturer of aeronautical navigation systems, Azimut (part of Rostec), has supplied Armenia with a radio beacon designed to help aircraft navigate in mountainous terrain and adverse weather conditions. According to TASS, this was announced by the Rostec State Corporation.
The equipment is installed near the city of Sisian.
“We have completed the testing of the VOR/DME 2700 in Armenia. It will allow aircraft to navigate along air routes in mountainous areas and poor weather conditions,” said Alexey Galchenkoff, Deputy Director General of Azimut.
The VOR/DME 2700 radio beacon determines the aircraft's location. It operates in the VHF (very high frequency, between 30 and 300 megahertz) range and can guide up to 200 aircraft simultaneously. The equipment is recommended by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) as a primary means for navigation along air routes, as well as a supplementary measure when aircraft are approaching for landing.
