Durov Ready to Testify in Romania's Presidential Election Case
The founder of Telegram, Pavel Durov, is ready to testify about the alleged interference of French intelligence in Romania's presidential elections. He indicated that he could personally come to the country to do so.
This statement comes in response to a post by losing candidate George Simion, who requested the annulment of the presidential election results due to proven interference, including from France.
"I am ready to come and testify if it helps Romanian democracy," Durov wrote on X.
It is noteworthy that the second round of Romania's presidential elections was held on Sunday. After processing 100% of the votes, data from the Central Electoral Bureau shows that the mayor of Bucharest, Nicusor Dan, received 53.6% of the votes, while George Simion, the leader of the nationalist party 'Alliance for the Union of Romanians', received 46.4%.
Simion has accepted his loss but announced today that his party intends to challenge the results of the second round in the Constitutional Court, citing external influences on the elections.
On Sunday, Durov stated that he was approached with a request to silence conservatives in Romania on the eve of the presidential elections. He claimed that the request came from a "Western European government." He later clarified that the request came from the head of French intelligence. Durov added that he "categorically refused" the request.
It should be noted that France’s external security agency has denied Durov’s allegations regarding attempts to influence the conduct of the presidential elections in Romania.
